-
- AT should forget the ultra-low and even the standard low-end markets
- completely.
-
- The A1200 sold well (as did the A500 before it) because it was a cheap
- games platform. Very cheap and plenty of games.
-
- Now almost the only games available are budget re-releases of old titles.
- Kids won't buy the AT1200 (or the new Axx00) to play games, as it won't
- run WipeOut, Ridge Racer, Wing Commander IV, Command and Conquer and all
- the other games they read about in their magazines.
-
- The only big market AT have left is the existing Amiga owners who want to
- stick with the machine and upgrade. For them, low-end ultra-cheap isn't
- necessarily the best option. Many will pay a little more for a machine
- with more perceived value. From that point, the expandability of the new
- machine has to be an excellent factor.
-
- But wasting money on making and trying to sell ultra-low end machines (I
- won't call them ultra-cheap, as that simply won't happen with Amiga's any
- more) has to be a bad move.
-
- There's no point spending millions on advertising the A1200 or any other
- low-end Amiga if most of the people who are likely to want to buy one
- already know all about it (ie. existing Amiga owners).
-
- How would YOU advertise the Amiga? (not just you, Jason, this is aimed at
- everyone). Saying "Buy this Amiga, it's cheaper than a PC, doesn't have
- as much memory but has a much leaner operating system so that doesn't
- matter" isn't exactly going to get hoards of people flocking to their
- Escom stores, is it?
